About The Course

The Youth Mental Health First Aid Course is designed specifically for those who interact with young people aged 12-18, including educators, parents, and youth workers.

 

This course equips participants with the skills needed to provide initial support to adolescents experiencing a mental health problem or crisis until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

Course Content

Participants of the course will learn to recognise and respond to the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems faced by adolescents, such as:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Eating Disorders

  • Substance Use Problems

  • Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviours

  • Panic Attacks

  • Non-Suicidal Self-Injury

With this training, you will be able to apply mental health first aid in a range of situations, providing crucial support during an emerging or worsening mental health problem.

Intervene Early

Recognise the warning signs of youth mental health issues in adolescents and understand the importance of early intervention for youth mental health.

Offer Support

Learn how to speak openly and accurately about mental health, implementing effective mental health strategies for educators and caregivers.

Respond In A Crisis

Gain the skills to handle crisis situations where a young person may be at risk of harm (e.g suicide prevention). 
Equip youth mentors to address bullying and mental health in schools and communities.

Reduce Stigma

Increase awareness and reduce stigma around mental health, supporting adolescent mental well-being and facilitating mental health awareness for parents and guardians.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid training in Wollongong, Shellharbour, Nowra, Kiama, the Illawarra region and Australia wide online, offers evidence-based, rigorously evaluated, skills-based and internationally recognised content, delivered in a local context ensuring relevance and a personal training experience.
